Is it air show season yet? Actually, damn near everything in the US is !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! until at least June.

So, h ere’s a shot I took at Fort Worth-Alliance back in 2012. First time I had ever seen my all-time favorite airplane in the flesh.

I’m holding out faint hope for Airventure. Highly unrealistic, but a man can dream. They’re a month or so away from a decision.

Stay safe!

I never went as often as I’d like, but the FWA show was always a good one. 2010:

We have reservations for Disney in mid-June. I am not optimistic. But we can always cancel, and we can always repurpose our airline tickets. The three biggest TX air shows (at least close to me)  aren’t until the fall, on three consecutive weekends in Oct/Nov. Fingers crossed.

Disney in June seems nearly impossible, but hopefully later this summer there's some return to normal (whatever that means going forward).

I was a huge airshow fanatic growing up. Ramstein spooked me a bit as a kid — mass casualties on video was a rarity .

Then in 2011 my uncle (a professional airshow announcer from the early 70s until recently) came within 50 feet of the 2011 Reno crash. That was his last gig, by choice.

Smithsonian v ideo below has some cheesy re-enactments, but also real footage of the crash (not too graphic, but definitely disturbing)

FWA = Fort Worth Alliance? I went to that one back in 2017. That was a good day for shooting . I love that F-16 moon shot you got.

I remember Ramstein well. As horrible as that wreck was, and many called for the end to air shows (and some still do), it led to significant changes in the way that air shows are staged, and they are now about as safe as they can be. That said, Reno always seemed pretty crazy.

Absolutely. My dad was in the business throughout the 80s and 90s, so Paris and Farnborough were pretty common. The only crash he ever witnessed was the famous ‘89 MiG-29 crash in Paris when the Soviets were showing off all the crazy stuff they had been developing in secret for years .

Fast forward about 2 years and the Iron Curtain was down...and dad was touring some of those secret MiG factories in person. Wild times. Vodka for breakfast every day.

Wings Over Pittsburgh hasn’t been held since ‘17, and the Westmorland County Airshow had already been canceled for the year due to construction at Arnie Palmer Regional and a scheduling conflict with the T ‘Birds, Angels and Snowbirds. Had a bit of an impromptu air show Monday though, someone found human remains just off the trolley tracks about 1000 feet north of me, and there were at least two news choppers orbiting for 30-45 minutes getting footage .

Been following Doc’s Friends on Twitter , and it seems like every day they’re announcing another cancellation.

I found I have been happier since I changed from coffee in the morning to orange juice. My doctor explained that it’s the vitamin C and natural sugars,  but I really think it’s the vodka.

I’ve seen the Snowbirds once, and it was at that same show where I photographed the Sabre. I really enjoyed their performance. Not as muscular or energetic as the American teams, but it had a beauty and grace all its own. What I would have done for some sunshine that day...

Yeah, the Fort Worth show. 2010 is when I tired to take some decent shots (for me lol), usually just would watch.

Browsed a bit through your pics - well done. When I was a kid we’d go to all the area Blue Angels and Thunderbirds shows, including Dyess. Loved seeing the B1Bs and used to see them flying regularly back then.

That parachute shot is amazing. Nicely done. I played in the orchestra in Abilene for 14 years, and spent much of my free time out at Rister Park next to Dyess, smoking cigars and taking pictures. Some days were absolutely dead, more so in the last few years, but other days were a fascinating mix of interesting aircraft.

Thanks. Pretty happy with that one.

Was not uncommon to see them flying low over west TX ranchland and farms back in the day (80-90s) . Lucky for you - would be a great spot for shots.   All good pics btw , but t hat max mil/burner takeoff shot is sweet!
